VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Gary McCollum today announced that his campaign raised $156,617.24 in the period stretching from July 1st through August 31st, bringing their campaign total to $716,852.62 for the cycle.  Moreover, the McCollum campaign enters the final stretch of the campaign with a tremendous $471,960.16 cash on hand.

“All around the district we are hearing that voters are eager to have commonsense, independent leadership in Richmond,” said Gary McCollum.  “That’s why so many people are engaging in this campaign.”

During the summer McCollum earned a number of important political endorsements, including the Virginia Education Association, the Virginia AFL-CIO, and the Virginia League of Conservation Voters.

BACKGROUND: A native Virginian, businessman, and former Army Ranger, Gary McCollum is not a politician, but a proven leader with a record of service to our nation and community.  Gary’s an independent voice who will stand up for the people of Hampton Roads.

Gary grew up in a Richmond housing project, he lost his mother at a young age and became the first in his family to graduate from high school and go to college. In addition to a 26 year business career, Gary served eight years as a US Army military intelligence officer. His last active duty assignment was with the US Army Rangers. He then served as a Major in the Army Reserve.

Gary McCollum will bring common-sense solutions to the General Assembly. He will be a strong advocate for Hampton Roads families and businesses – supporting our veterans and military, ensuring all our children have an opportunity to succeed, fighting for road, rail and bridge projects to help reduce gridlock, strengthening our small businesses and working to create more high paying jobs.

Gary and his wife, Cookie, live in Virginia Beach. They have two daughters, Arielle and Ruth.
